On 11th November, China University of Petroleum-Beijing (CUP) and Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) held the 2020 Confucius Institute Board Meeting online. Diego Quiroga, Vice President of USFQ, Li Gensheng, Vice President of CUP, members of the Board, and staff of international office from the two universities attended the meeting.

Li expressed his congratulations to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute between the two universities, introduced the reformin the management mechanism of Confucius Institute, and explained changes in the Confucius Institute's operation mode in future. He hoped the two sides to renew the agreement on the basis of 10-year cooperation to ensure a smooth transfer of the management mechanism, to understand each other and improve the operation mechanism of the Confucius Institute, to strengthen exchanges, expand cooperation, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win cooperation, to promote bilateral relationship between two universities to new heights.

Diego Quiroga said USFQ attaches great importance to the cooperation with CUP and wishes to further deepen the bilateral cooperation on the basis of co-organizing the Confucius Institute. Ecuador is rich in oil and mineral resources. In future, the Confucius Institute can give full play to the petroleum characteristics and to meet language and culture learning needs of exchanges in energy sector between the two countries, and to further expand cooperation. USFQ will fully collaborate with CUP to renew the agreement as soon as possible to ensure a smoothcompletion of the transfer process.

The Board listened to the annual work report from José Salazar, the foreign director of USFQ-CUP Confucius Institute, and discussed details of reform and changesof the Confucius Institute and the renewal of the agreement. They also reached consensus on carrying out more forms of communication and cooperation to the fields of characteristic disciplines in future.

The USFQ-CUP Confucius Institute, located in Quito, Ecuador, was commissioned by the Confucius Institute's headquarters (Hanban) in 2010 to CUP and the University of San Francisco in Quito to jointly establish, and is currently the only Confucius Institute in Ecuador. Over the past 10 years, the Confucius Institute has extensively conducted Chinese teaching in local areas and actively organized various language and cultural activities, which have won high recognition from all sectors of local community, and have made positive contributions to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and Ecuador.
